B.C. HOV Lane Update: No More EV Decals Needed (Effective August 15, 2025)

Starting August 15, 2025, eligible plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) can use B.C. HOV lanes without an "EV OK" decal—provided they are powered by an electric motor and can be charged externally.

 Eligible Vehicles (as of August 15, 2025):

• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
• Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
• Both in-province and eligible out-of-province EVs
• All sizes: light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty

 No Longer Eligible:

• Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles
• Long-range non-plug-in hybrids
• Gas-hybrid vehicles

• No More Decals: You no longer need an EV decal to access HOV lanes.
• Signage Matters: EVs can only use the HOV lane where signage specifically permits it.
• Wider Access: Out-of-province EVs and electric heavy-duty trucks are now eligible where signage allows.
